By day he works as yet another NHS administrator in the massive and clunking machine that tries to keep us all alive that little bit longer. By night he splits his time between various extremely cool activities.
He has been a borderline obsessive martial arts student since his second week at UWN and still trains in Traditional Jujutsu (Takamatsuden), as well as Modern Jujutsu and Karate whenever he can. When not doing that, the equally cool hobby of painting wargames figures occupies his time (a plague upon Games Workshop for making things both so expensive and so awesome!). And as if these were not enough to drive his long-suffering fiancee insane, he spends the rest of his time writing Fantasy books!
While still at UWN and working in glamorous Hyper Value, a fellow student/shelf-stacker asked James to help him write some stories for a comic-book he was working on. It never came to anything in the end, but it was this that made him think that writing fiction might be something he could do well and really enjoy doing. Because of this he wasted a great deal of time at university trying to write books, doing very badly at it and finally giving up in disgust. Then trying again a few years later, then giving up again and so on for more rounds than he is proud of.
Finally, in 2014, he decided to man up and wrote his first complete book, the first novel of the Oak Leaf Crown saga (which was too long for a first-timer to publish!), followed shortly by what was supposed to be a quick novella… which became a novel… which became a series. Thus Wildcat and the Caledon books were born and James finds himself with (at least) two series of books to work on. His fiancee is delighted.
This means you will be treated to snippets of my writing, both from the books and what short stories I feel like writing at the time, updates on how the Road to Publication is going and any other info on the Oak Leaf Crown and other projects that I care to share with the world.
In the personal blog entries you will be subjected to my reviews of what books and films I’ve been reading and watching, chatter and rants about martial arts and the occasional treat of a post about figure painting or ballroom dancing!
